Lost or Stolen Passport
Summary: If your passport is lost or stolen you need to inform the Passport Office asap. Use LS01 to report lost or stolen passport. About 300 000 passports are lost or stolen every year.

What to do if your passport is lost or stolen?
1.
If you find your passport has been lost or stolen it is essential that you report the loss immediately to the
the Passport Office to reduce the risk of someone else using your identity.

2.
Report all losses using a 'Lost or Stolen Notification Form' (LS01) which can be found on the the Passport Office website, via the telephone helpline or alternatively at regional Post Offices and Police Stations.

3.
If your passport was stolen in the UK, report the theft to the local police station and obtain a Crime Reference Number which must also be included on the LS01 form.

What to do if you are abroad?
If you are abroad when the loss occurs,

inform the local police immediately and

contact the UK embassy, high commission or consulate.

They will inform the the Passport Office of the situation and be able to provide you with the LS01 form required to report your loss as well as the documentation you need to return to the UK where you can then apply for a replacement passport.
Ensure that the passport holder signs the LS01 as their signature will be checked against central records. In the case of a child, the initial applicant should be the signee of the form.

If you are in the UK at the time of the loss it is possible to apply for a replacement passport at the same time using the standard passport application form. If your replacement is urgent, you can take advantage of the One-Week Fast Track service however the One-Day Premium Service is not available for replacements.
