Summary: Passport processing time depends on the type of service used to apply for passport. Officially it takes between 4-6 weeks to process 1st British passport. Passport renewal takes about 3 weeks. Premium service takes 24 hours and the Fast track service takes 1 week.
The processing time of your passport application depends on the type of passport application;

The data is divided into 2 time frames;
1 Passports processed within 10 working days
2. Passports processed between 11-15 working days.
Remember when calculating the timeframe that working days do not include weekends. So in reality 10 days equates to 2 weeks.
Avoid applying for a passport in July and August
As you can see the two worst months to apply for a passport are July and August. In August only 1 in 4 passport are processed with 10 working days. So always bear this in mind when submitting your application.
