Passport fees for Children
Since 5th October 1998 it has been a legal requirement for each individual child, no matter how young, to hold their own passport.
Even if your child has travelled on your documentation prior to this date, you must now ensure that every person under the age of 16 years in your family holds a full child’s passport before they attempt to travel.
Any individual with parental responsibility for a child can apply for their passport however further legal requirements
may need to be met if the child in question is in care or placed with foster parents.
How long are child passports valid for
UK children’s passports are currently valid for the full five-year life span of the document no matter when it is issued, effectively allowing an individual of 20 to hold a valid child’s passport when acquired before their 16th birthday. Equally any application made by a ‘child’ over the age of 16 must be for a full adult passport.
Currently all children’s passports are charged at £46.00.
Though eligible for the standard Fast Track service, only a simple renewal of an existing passport which has not been lost, stolen or damaged is available under the One-Day Premium option. This service is also not available to children who have previously been included on an adult’s record.
Full supporting documentation requirements apply to all children’s applications including the need for a clear photograph. For best results, read the guidelines fully before submitting your application or consider using a professional photographer who will often guarantee the accuracy of the final image sent.
